About this program
The Graduate Certificate in Bioinformatics is a half-year postgraduate program at UQ's St Lucia campus for graduates in science, IT, engineering or an approved discipline, and for experienced professionals, who want to use best-practice bioinformatics to solve scientific problems. Students build an advanced understanding of computing, statistics and biology, along with specialised knowledge in selected areas. It can be studied alone or as a pathway to the Graduate Diploma or Master of Bioinformatics. Graduates work as bioinformaticians and computational biologists, data-minded scientists, and analysts in genomics, medical research, agriculture and biotechnology.

Admissions
To be eligible for entry, you'll need: a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline, including two courses in any combination of computer science, biology or statistics, or 2 years full-time equivalent, relevant work experience (see below). You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 4.5 on a 7-point scale in your previous qualification. Relevant work experience Relevant work experience includes work in bioinformatics, information technology, data science, computer engineering, statistics, biotechnology, science, biomedical science, genetics, molecular biology, and biochemistry.
