About this program
The Master of Fine Arts at the University of Western Australia consists of a combination of thesis and creative work, and assumes a high level of both theoretical and practical expertise in fine arts. Under the guidance of a supervisor, students pursue an advanced program of supervised research and arts practice culminating in a substantial creative body of work and an accompanying thesis. Graduates pursue practice, exhibition, teaching and research careers across the visual and creative arts.

Course structure
1 term of coursework
- Over a standard 2 year
- 96 point enrolment
- students present for examination an exhibition of original artwork showing technical accomplishment and imaginative resource
- together with a thesis of up to 25
- 000 words on an aspect of arts theory
- history or criticism. Full time students submit the proposed thesis topic and exhibition form for Board approval within four months of first enrolment
- and must present an accompanying exegesis of up to 5
- 000 words. The exhibition is examined by a committee comprising the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture
- Landscape and Visual Arts (or nominee) and two examiners external to UWA

Admissions
Applicants must have completed the requirements for a bachelor's degree in an appropriate subject area from UWA, or equivalent, and have completed a qualification in Art Practice from a recognised tertiary institution, or be judged by the Graduate Research School Board to have equivalent practical expertise and professional standing. Applicants without sufficient theoretical and practical grounding in fine arts may be required to complete preliminary work.
