About this program
The Master of Legal Practice is designed for overseas qualified lawyers who have already completed a law degree and been admitted to practice in another jurisdiction, and who have been advised by the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia to complete extra units of study before they can be admitted to practice in this state. It is the only course of its kind offered in Western Australia. Each candidate's program is tailored specifically to them, based on the requirements set by the Legal Practice Board, and successful completion gives graduates the accreditation needed to apply for admission as a solicitor or barrister in Western Australia, subject to any further requirements the Board sets.

On both MLTSSL and CSOL, but a positive skills assessment is not the same as being able to practise. You must first be admitted to an Australian state legal profession, which for an overseas or JD graduate means passing the assessed academic subjects, completing Practical Legal Training, and being admitted by the state Supreme Court, before the occupation is realistically usable for a visa.

Admissions
Applicants must hold a Juris Doctor or Bachelor of Laws, or an equivalent qualification recognised by UWA, and must have an assessment from the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia setting out which units they are required to complete in order to practise in the state.
