About this program
UNSW's Master of Animation and Visual Effects is a two-year program combining technical, conceptual and creative training to prepare graduates and professionals for the fast-moving animation and VFX industry, working across the full content creation pipeline from concept art and pre-visualisation through to production and final output. Students get access to industry-standard facilities and educators with genuine industry experience, focusing on creative experimentation and skills development while building a portfolio and developing their own artistic vision. Beyond technical skill, the program builds digital aesthetics judgement, communication, teamwork and the agility this fast-evolving field demands, preparing graduates for a range of digital production roles. It suits creative graduates and professionals who want deep technical and creative training specifically in animation and visual effects, positioned to work either independently or collaboratively in production studios.

Admissions
Admission pathways into the Master of Animation and Visual Effects degree can include: A Bachelor's degree (AQF level 7) in any field with a weighted average mark (WAM) of at least 65 or equivalent. This provides admission into the full two-year program, requiring completion of 96 UOC (2 years full-time equivalent). A Bachelor's degree (AQF level 7) in a related field with a weighted average mark (WAM) of at least 65 or equivalent. This allows students to receive credit for 24 UOC (4 courses) upon commencement, meaning students can complete the program in 72 UOC (1.7 years full-time equivalent). Or, An Honours Degree (AQF level 8) in a related field. This allows students to receive credit for the first year of the program (48 UOC or 8 courses) upon commencement, meaning students can complete the program in 48 UOC (1 year full-time equivalent).
