About this program
A three-year science degree that is the first half of Adelaide University's six-year veterinary pathway: graduates move into the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, and only the two together lead to registration as a vet.
Year one covers foundational biology and chemistry, with later years moving into veterinary anatomy and physiology, animal nutrition, genetics, microbiology, parasitology and epidemiology, and hands-on animal work from first semester. It includes a 12-week animal husbandry placement on farms with cattle, sheep and horses, taught at purpose-built facilities including a teaching hospital. Entry is competitive: an ATAR of about 90, SACE Stage 2 biology, chemistry or mathematical methods, plus a questionnaire and the Casper assessment. It suits students committed to the full veterinary pathway.
