About this program
In today’s fast-paced and challenging world, understanding human behaviour is a vital skill. In the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) you will explore how the mind works, and why people behave the way they do. This course gives you the opportunity to complete a four-year sequence in psychology by including an embedded honours year. This meets APAC's requirements that enable you to apply for postgraduate courses in Psychology which may lead to registration as a psychologist. You can choose to undertake a minor in a wide range of areas, including counselling, criminology, exercise science, business, history and philosophy (the full range is listed below under Course Structure). If you already hold a bachelor’s degree (in any other discipline), you could obtain the same qualification in a shorter period of time by applying for our fully online Level 1 program, the Graduate Diploma in Psychology (1.25 years full-time), which upon completion makes you eligible to apply for the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) (1 year full-time on-campus). Community engagement With an emphasis on work-integrated learning, there are opportunities in the third year unit PSYC310 Psychological Services Experience for student to complete 25 hours of community engagement, these experiences help you to develop knowledge and skills related to psychology. - Completion requirements To qualify for the pass degree, a student must complete 320 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of: 140 cp from Psychology Specified Units (Part A) 40 cp from Minor: 40 cp from Health Sciences Minor (Part B)
- OR 40 cp from Arts Minor (Part C) 20 cp from University Core Curriculum Units (Part D) 10 cp from Psychology Community Engagement Unit (Part E) 10 cp from Psychology Elective Units (Part F) 20 cp from General Elective Units (Part G) 40 cp from Specified Honours Units (Part H) 40 cp from Honours Thesis Units (Part I) Other requirements ACU Student Internal Course Transfer Students in the Bachelor of Psychological Science who have completed between 120 to 160 credit points and have a minimum grade point average of 5.0 on the ACU seven-point scale are eligible to apply for transfer into the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours). (Note: Given the honours thesis must start in Semester 1, for mid-year entry students there is normally a one semester break between the end of their third year (at mid-year) and the beginning of fourth year studies in Semester 1). Admissions
Year 12 completion (or equivalent), ATAR 90.40 for Melbourne. An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy. To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12, or equivalent:New South Wales. English (Standard) (Band 2) or English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD)Victoria. Units 3 and 4 to a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in any other English.International applicants need to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements as defined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
