About this program
The ANU Juris Doctor is a three-year graduate law degree for people who already hold a bachelor degree, with entry set at a minimum grade point average of 5.0 on a 7-point scale and competitive selection. The 144-unit program covers the foundational legal areas required for practice, including contracts, torts, criminal law, constitutional law, evidence, property and equity, alongside electives, at least one capstone course and a substantial research component. Completing the JD satisfies the academic requirements set by Australian admission authorities, but to practise as a solicitor or barrister a graduate must still complete a separate practical legal training course. Graduates work in private practice, government legal roles, corporate law and community legal centres, and the degree also leads into policy, diplomacy, industrial relations and public administration. Indicative international tuition is around A$64,130 per year.
