Bachelor of Design
Box Hill Institute, Melbourne, VIC, Australia
About this program
The Bachelor of Design, CRICOS 111000K, is Box Hill Institute's TEQSA accredited award (renewal date 13 May 2029) covering the fashion side of its design portfolio. Box Hill currently markets the degree as two distinct majors sharing the same course code and CRICOS registration: Bachelor of Design (Fashion Design) and Bachelor of Design (Fashion Enterprise), each with its own dedicated live course page. There is no separately marketed plain "Bachelor of Design" page; the base award is delivered through these two majors.
The Fashion Design major covers the complete fashion product lifecycle from concept development through patternmaking, garment construction and product development to responsible fashion practice, while the Fashion Enterprise major covers the same lifecycle from a market research, trend forecasting, buying and merchandising angle, aimed at students building brands and bringing products to market rather than designing garments themselves. Both majors run 28 units over 3 years (12 core units, plus either 14 major and 2 electives for Fashion Design or 10 major and 6 electives for Fashion Enterprise), include an 80 hour industry internship, and involve live industry projects with Australian fashion brands such as Cotton On Group, Sportsgirl, Sussan Group, Jockey Australia and Peter Alexander.
Box Hill is a proud supporter of Seamless, Australia's national clothing stewardship scheme, and both majors build toward a more responsible, circular fashion industry. Graduates of either stream leave with a professional portfolio and industry experience, aimed at roles from fashion designer and costume designer to fashion buyer, trend forecaster and fashion entrepreneur.
