Bachelor of Music Industry (Major in Performance)
Box Hill Institute, Melbourne, VIC, Australia
About this program
Box Hill Institute's Bachelor of Music Industry, CRICOS 104940B, offers six majors (business, composition, music production, performance, songwriting and audio production) sharing a common core taken in the first two years, which covers the music industry from multiple angles including innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship. Students in the Performance major fill roughly half their remaining coursework with the major itself and choose the rest from a pool of over sixty elective and minor subjects.
In Year 1, Performance students learn foundational music theory and ear training on their instrument, instrumental technique for performance, and ensemble playing skills, alongside a weekly "how music works" lecture series. Year 2 moves into creative artistry through analysis and interpretation of repertoire, instrumental lessons, and applying aural and theoretical knowledge in a weekly performance workshop. Year 3 has students conceive and present their own musical projects, applying advanced aural comprehension, theory, technique and stagecraft in an industry expert led workshop.
Students get access to Box Hill's studio facilities, a licensed 200+ capacity on campus music venue, industry standard writing and production suites, an Artist in Residence program, the on campus Tremorverse Record label, and an Analogue Synth Collection. Box Hill builds in two real exit points: a Diploma in Music Industry after 1 year of full time study, and an Associate Degree in Music Industry after 2 years, both built as separate rows in this database. Graduates are aimed at roles including performer, composer, studio roles, broadcaster and marketing professional.
