Bachelor of Creative Arts

Curtin University, Perth, WA, Australia

About this program

Curtin's Bachelor of Creative Arts narrows the choice to three majors (Fine Art, Screen Arts, or Theatre Arts) rather than the sprawling major list attached to the Bachelor of Arts, which makes it a more deliberately practice-focused degree from day one. Students build a thorough grounding in both the theory and the practice of their chosen discipline, then layer on a specialisation drawn from a different Creative Arts area or effectively any other field they meet the prerequisites for, so a Theatre Arts major might specialise in Screen Arts, or step entirely outside Creative Arts for something like marketing or writing.

The capstone unit is where the degree's practical bent shows most clearly: Fine Art students mount an exhibition, Theatre Arts students stage a performance, Screen Arts students complete a screen project, all functioning as a public-facing portfolio piece rather than a written exam or essay.

Curtin's location gives Screen Arts students in particular a practical edge. Perth's screen production sector has grown considerably with state government screen incentives drawing international productions to WA, and Curtin has leaned into that with industry-facing production units.
