About this program

Curtin University offers the only comprehensive surveying degree in Western Australia. Surveying is a highly specialised discipline within Engineering and Science (sometimes called Geomatics Engineering or Geomatics) and is a long-established profession, having played a crucial role in the development of Australia since settlement. Furthermore, the evolution of Australian infrastructure will depend upon the skills that surveyors and spatial scientists provide. Surveyors use advanced technology and scientific principles to provide practical solutions and services to many areas of industry, such as land development, construction, mining and mapping. Surveying will give you the opportunity to work as a Land Surveyor, Cadastral Surveyor, Engineering Surveyor, Mine Surveyor and offers further career opportunities. It includes modern techniques with total stations, levels, satellite positioning (GPS/GNSS), laser scanning, photogrammetry (drone surveying), airborne and marine navigation, digital mapping, satellite and airborne remote sensing, specialised alignment mine and engineering surveying, and geographic information systems (GIS). The research focus of an Honours degree provides a pathway for career advancement. Students are required to complete at least three months' employment in their field during the course of their degree . Additionally, students must hold an approved first aid certificate before graduating. Bachelor Degrees prepare students to develop broad and coherent knowledge and skills in a discipline for professional work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 7 qualifications. The honours component prepares students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional work, research and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications.

At least Mathematics Applications ATAR. Mathematics Methods ATAR desirable. STAT elements considered are W, E and Q. STAT applicants will be required to meet entry prerequisites by completing enabling units. This study may extend the duration of their studies. Applicants for a Bachelor Honours Degree are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; and include flexible entry pathways.
