Anyone unsure which branch of engineering suits them can start the Flexible Entry version of this degree and pick a specialisation after a shared first year of core engineering fundamentals - materials, mechanics, programming, mathematics, design and electronics. That's a genuine hedge against the common problem of 18-year-olds locking into Civil or Mechanical before they've had any real exposure to either.

- Year 1: shared engineering core - engineering mathematics, mechanics, materials, introductory programming, engineering design, electronics fundamentals
- Year 2: specialisation begins - discipline-specific core units (e.g. thermodynamics and fluid mechanics for Mechanical
- structures and geotechnics for Civil)
- Year 3: advanced discipline units, major selection within specialisation (e.g. Transport Systems Engineering major within Civil, or Advanced Manufacturing within Mechanical)
