Anyone unsure which branch of engineering suits them can start the Flexible Entry version of this degree and pick a specialisation after a shared first year of core engineering fundamentals - materials, mechanics, programming, mathematics, design and electronics. That's a genuine hedge against the common problem of 18-year-olds locking into Civil or Mechanical before they've had any real exposure to either.
Flinders offers accredited engineering across an unusually wide spread for a mid-sized Australian university - Biomedical, Civil, Electrical and Electronic, Environmental, Maritime, Mechanical, Nuclear, Robotics and Software - and the Mechanical stream in particular lets students specialise further into areas like Electro Mechanical Systems, Materials Engineering, Maritime Engineering or Advanced Manufacturing and Digital Design. Civil students similarly choose among Civil Infrastructure, Environmental Engineering, Structural Engineering or Transport Systems Engineering majors.
The honours designation isn't a bolt-on extra year here - it's built into the four-year degree from the start, which lines up with Engineers Australia accreditation requirements and means graduates don't need to complete a separate honours program to hit the professional threshold most employers and further study pathways expect.

Admissions
Direct entry requires a guaranteed-entry ATAR of 80 for most majors (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic, Biomedical, Software), with a STAT score of 170.0 or a GPA of 5.0, or an ATAR of 75 (STAT 155.0, GPA 5.0) for the Robotics and Environmental Engineering majors. Applicants who don't meet this can apply through Flinders University Academy's foundation, diploma and pathway programs, or via recognised prior study and work experience assessed case by case.
