About this program
The Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) is Holmes Institute's 2 year, full time initial teacher education degree, approved by ACECQA and designed to lead to full early childhood teacher registration. It combines child development theory, curriculum design and inclusive teaching practice with two supervised professional placements, and the first year of units is identical to Holmes's Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood, so Graduate Diploma graduates can move directly into the second year without repeating subjects.
Because it leads to a registrable teaching qualification, admission carries a non academic bar the rest of Holmes's postgraduate courses do not: applicants must complete a teaching suitability test or interview (Holmes uses the Casper situational judgement test administered by Acuity Insights) to confirm they are ready to participate in professional placements. Graduates typically move into roles such as early childhood teacher or kindergarten teacher, with progression toward centre director, early years consultant or policy advisor roles.
