About this program
La Trobe's Juris Doctor is a 360-credit-point graduate-entry law degree, three years full-time, taught at the City campus in Melbourne's court and business precinct with small, flexible evening classes. Starting in the preceding November intake or taking summer electives can shorten it to 2.5 years. Core subjects and electives are designed with judges and senior lawyers, and students who finish their core subjects by the start of the final year can add practical legal training within the degree. Entry is a bachelor degree with a 60 percent average, or a bachelor plus three years of professional experience and a personal statement, with IELTS 6.5 and no band below 6.0. The degree meets the Victorian Legal Admissions Board academic requirements to be admitted as a lawyer in Victoria; admission also requires practical legal training. Graduates work as solicitors and barristers, policy advisers, in-house counsel and legal consultants. Indicative international tuition is around A$48,000 per year.
