About this program
La Trobe's Master of Art Therapy is a two-year, 240-credit-point degree that La Trobe describes as the only specialist postgraduate art therapy degree of its kind in Australia. It combines art practice with counselling for clinical, therapeutic and community settings, taught through face-to-face workshops in a purpose-built studio with work-integrated learning at partners including the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and the Royal Children's Hospital. The degree is accredited by the Australian Counselling Association, and graduates may apply for registration with it. Entry is a bachelor degree, a portfolio of original artwork, a written application and at least one year of human services or community work, paid or voluntary. IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0. Graduates work as art therapists in hospitals, community and crisis services, schools, aged and palliative care, and correctional settings. Indicative international tuition is around A$44,800 per year.
