Bachelor of Psychological Sciences (Honours)

The Bachelor of Psychological Sciences (Honours) is typically a one-year course, and is intended for high-achieving students aiming for a professional career in Psychology. Psychology is a discipline involving both scientific research and applied professional practice. This course builds upon foundational training provided in an accredited Level 1 Psychology qualification, which equips students with a scientific understanding of the psychological processes that underlie behaviour including perception, cognition, learning, motivation, neuroscience, psychopathology, personality, emotion, developmental psychology, health psychology, counselling and social relationships, as well as training in the analysis of data and research methodologies. In the Honours course, students will plan and engage in an independent and sustained critical investigation and evaluation of a chosen research topic that will match their strengths and career interests. As such, the degree has been specifically designed to develop the following four graduate capabilities: Capability 1 Scientist and Scholar : Graduates will be ethical scientists and research-informed scholars with broad and coherent knowledge and skills relevant to the discipline of psychology to engage effectively with contemporary and traditional knowledge systems across diverse contexts. Graduates will apply critical, creative, reflective, and flexible thinking to contribute and respond constructively across diverse settings, including to a substantive individual piece of work. Capability 2 Practitioner : Graduates will be effective multimodal communicators and skilled emerging practitioners able to apply psychological knowledge and skills for positive impact, including interpersonal communication, interview skills, knowledge of interventions, and assessment skills.
