About this program
Monash's Bachelor of Design treats design as an interdisciplinary practice aimed at improving human experience, adding cultural value and solving emerging local and global challenges, rather than a narrow technical or artistic skill. Students build deep expertise in one of four specialist areas: collaborative design, communication design, industrial design or spatial design, developing the ability to create objects, spatial experiences, systems and communication solutions that genuinely influence how people behave and interact. The course frames design as fundamentally people-centred, training students to respond to both personal and public needs through diverse, innovative and sustainable design processes rather than pursuing aesthetics for its own sake. It suits creatively minded students who want a genuinely professional design qualification with real specialisation depth, whether their interest lies in physical products, digital communication, spatial environments or collaborative design processes that bring multiple stakeholders together.

Course structure
- The course comprises 144 credit points
- of which 96 credit points are focussed on the study of design (Collaborative design, Communication design, Industrial design or Spatial design) and 48 credit points of free electives You must ensure that you complete no more than 10 units (60 credit points) at Level 1 and at least 24 credit points at Level 3 or higher. The course is structured in four parts and develops through theme studies in history and theory studies

- and design studio practice and free electives. Elective units may be at any level
- however
- no more than 60 points are to be completed at level 1 in the design course. Units are 6 points unless otherwise stated. Part A. Critical contexts (30 points) You must complete the following units.
