Bachelor of Laws (Honours)

Monash University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia

About this program

Monash Law's headline distinction is clinical legal education: the faculty was the first in Australia to embed it into the curriculum, roughly fifty years ago, and it remains the only Australian law school that guarantees every LLB and JD student at least one clinical placement working real cases for real clients under supervision. Not a simulation: an actual file with an actual outcome for someone. For a degree type where "practical experience" often means a mock trial, that's a substantively different claim.

The course structure otherwise follows the expected shape: first year introduces the mechanics and reasoning of the Australian legal system, then opens into a genuinely broad elective range, including non-law units taken across other Monash faculties, which the school markets as building perspective beyond doctrinal law. Moot Court participation, run out of a dedicated state-of-the-art facility, is available to all students and often carries assessment weight rather than being purely extracurricular.

As a combined Bachelor of Laws (Honours), this course code is typically taken alongside another Monash degree, Arts, Commerce, Science or others, which is standard practice in Australian legal education and stretches total candidature to five years, but produces graduates with both a professional law qualification and a substantive second discipline.
