Bachelor of Psychology (Honours)

This is Monash's APAC-accredited four-year psychology sequence: the version employers and registration bodies actually recognise as a first step toward practice, as opposed to the three-year psychological science degree that doesn't carry accreditation on its own. Because the accreditation requirement locks in most of the curriculum, the degree reads less like a menu of electives and more like a staged sequence: statistics and research methods build across all four years, culminating in an honours thesis that functions as the gateway into provisional psychologist registration or a doctorate.

The fourth year mixes coursework with a supervised empirical research project, and Monash's psychology department has research groups working in areas like developmental neuroscience, clinical psychology and cognitive science, so thesis topics vary a lot depending on which lab a student lands in. Competition for fourth-year places is real: students need a strong GPA across years one to three, since Monash and every other Australian psychology program cap Honours intake below the number of students who complete the pre-honours years.

Graduates leave with the two years of study required (on top of the degree) toward general registration as a psychologist in Australia, which is the main reason students choose this pathway over an unaccredited generalist degree even though it's more sequence-locked.
