About this program
Monash's Graduate Diploma of Laws lets law graduates and practising lawyers build deeper expertise in a chosen area of legal practice or scholarship, drawing on the same broad pool of postgraduate law units used across Monash Law's other graduate programs. Students investigate contemporary legal issues and evaluate complex problems from theoretical, global and interdisciplinary angles, with enough flexibility to focus narrowly on one specialisation or spread study across several areas of interest. At eight units, it sits between the shorter Graduate Certificate of Laws and the full Master of Laws, suiting practitioners who want more depth than a certificate but aren't ready to commit to a full master's degree. Credit generally carries forward if a graduate decides to continue into the Master of Laws later, making the diploma a reasonable middle option for lawyers still deciding how much further postgraduate study they want to commit to.
