About this program
The Juris Doctor is Monash's professional entry master's degree for people who already hold an undergraduate degree in another field and want to qualify as an Australian lawyer, satisfying the academic requirements for admission to legal practice. The course builds integrated knowledge across the principal areas of legal practice alongside broader perspectives on how law actually functions in society, developing professional skills in problem-solving, legal research, communication and ethical judgement that get applied directly in a later-year professional project. On both MLTSSL and CSOL, but a positive skills assessment is not the same as being able to practise. You must first be admitted to an Australian state legal profession, which for an overseas or JD graduate means passing the assessed academic subjects, completing Practical Legal Training, and being admitted by the state Supreme Court, before the occupation is realistically usable for a visa.
