About this program
The Master of Biomedical and Health Science is a two-year research-training degree run through Monash's Biomedicine Discovery Institute, structured as an intensive first year of coursework in research and pedagogical skills followed by a second year built around a full-time supervised research project. Students choose an elective theme to specialise in, including obesity and energy metabolism, cancer biology, cardiovascular disease, infectious disease and population health, neuroscience, or regenerative medicine and stem cells, giving the degree real disciplinary depth rather than a generic biomedical overview. The second year also builds entrepreneurship and employability skills alongside the research project, culminating in a merit-based industry or Monash internship that gives students a foot in the door beyond academia. It's built for science graduates who want serious research training before committing to a PhD, or who are aiming for research-adjacent industry roles in biotech, pharmaceuticals or medical research institutes where hands-on project experience matters as much as coursework.

- The course comprises 96 points structured into three parts: Part A. Research foundation studies (24 points), Part B. Discipline studies (24 points), and Part C. Research project and professional practice (48 points). Units are 6 points unless otherwise stated. Part A. Admissions
Entry level 1: 96 points to complete. Duration: 2 years full-time. An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in Biomedical Science or other related areas of study* with a credit (60%) average. Entry level 2 : 48 points to complete. Duration: 1 year full-time. An Australian bachelor honours degree (or equivalent) in Biomedical Science or other related areas of study* with a high credit (65%) average.
