About this program
Monash's Master of Clinical Embryology is a 12-month, laboratory-focused course built specifically to prepare graduates for entry-level roles in IVF clinics, covering the practical, ethical and regulatory sides of human infertility treatment. Students spend the year on continual practical skills training using mouse and ovine IVF as laboratory models, since the course involves no direct patient contact, alongside a minor research project and coursework covering the national and international regulations that govern human IVF services. A mid-year placement at an Australian, New Zealand or international IVF clinic gives students direct exposure to clinical operations before graduation. Because the course is recognised across most Australian IVF clinics, graduates are often placed directly into entry-level embryology positions, with a realistic path to lab manager roles later in their career. Online delivery is available, with practical experience gained largely in the student's own workplace supplemented by occasional on-campus workshops, making the course accessible to people already working adjacent to the fertility sector.

The course comprises 72 points structured in ten units comprising theoretical and practical work which is completed in study period blocks. Units are 6 points unless otherwise stated. Admissions
An Australian bachelor honours degree (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline in science or biomedicine - second class or above or An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline in medicine or veterinary science with WAM over 60% or An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) with at least pass (50%) average and a minimum of one year of full-time equivalent relevant professional experience in embryology or reproductive biology or An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) and a Graduate Diploma in Reproductive Science from Monash University (or equivalent qualification from another institution approved by the faculty) with at least distinction (70%) average.
