About this program
The Master of Clinical Research, delivered through Monash's School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at The Alfred Hospital in inner-city Melbourne, was the first course of its kind in Victoria and trains students in the analytical and communication skills needed for clinical and translational medicine research. Students choose between a clinical research specialisation, covering biostatistics, epidemiology, clinical trials and systematic review methods, or a translational research specialisation focused on how research findings in areas like central nervous system disorders, metabolic disease and immunology move from the lab into clinical application. Both pathways include a substantial supervised research project that lets students develop their own research question within their chosen specialisation, taught by clinical and research academics working at a major teaching hospital. A mixture of online, face-to-face and hands-on delivery keeps the course workable for people balancing study with clinical work, and it functions as a realistic pathway into doctoral research for those who want to keep building a research career.
