About this program
The Master of Global Medicines Development is a joint degree between Monash and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, built around how new medicines actually get discovered, developed and distributed at a global scale rather than the science of drug design itself. Units are taught collaboratively by academics from both institutions and tackle real policy problems, including how medicines development gets funded in developing countries, how global drug regulation actually works in practice, and why access to effective medicines remains so uneven worldwide. Team-based projects with a genuinely international cohort build the cross-cultural and leadership skills needed to work across regulatory systems and cultural contexts, and a final-semester placement gives students direct exposure to how the industry or policy sector actually operates. It suits graduates from health, science, business or policy backgrounds who want to work in pharmaceutical policy, regulatory affairs, global health funding or medicines access advocacy rather than laboratory-based drug discovery.

The course comprises 72 points structured into three parts
- 42 pointsCore studies
- Specified elective studies (6 points) and Part C. Professional practice (24 points). Units are 6 points unless otherwise stated. Part A. Admissions
An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in Pharmaceutical Science, Pharmacy, Science, Biomedical Science or Engineering (in an appropriate discipline e.g. Pharmaceutical, Chemical, Biomedical or Materials) with at least a credit (60%) average.
