About this program
Monash's Master of Health Data Analytics trains data analysts specifically for health-sector problems, from measuring how well a new treatment actually works to modelling patient outcomes and building diagnostic imaging algorithms, rather than teaching generic data science skills and leaving the health context to chance. Coursework combines core analytics training in mathematics, programming, biostatistics and machine learning with a genuine grounding in health systems, health data sources and epidemiological principles, on the basis that a data analyst who doesn't understand how health data is actually generated will produce misleading results. Students choose a stream in biostatistics, machine learning, or a combination of both, letting the degree flex toward more traditional health statistics or more computational, algorithm-heavy analytics depending on career goals. It suits graduates from mathematics, statistics, computer science or health science backgrounds moving into a field with strong demand across academia, government health departments and the growing health-tech and digital health industry.

Foundation studies (54 points) You must complete the following units including one only of EPM5003 or FIT5197: EPM5026 Mathematical foundations for biostatistics EPM5027 Regression modelling for biostatistics I EPM5029 Introduction to health data analytics EPM5033 Programming Principles for Health Data Analytics using Python ETC5510 Introduction to data analysis FIT5196 Data wrangling FIT9136 Algorithms and programming foundations in python MPH5040 Introductory epidemiology EPM5003 Principles of statistical inference FIT5197 Statistical data modelling Part B. Applied studies (24 points) You must complete the following units including one only of EPM5031 or EPM5032. Note: Enrolment into EPM5031 is by invitation from the Course Director.
