About this program
The Master of Occupational and Environmental Health builds on the diploma-level version of the same subject area, training workplace health professionals to identify, control and manage occupational and environmental health risks across a wide range of industries and community settings. The course is aimed at medical practitioners, nurses, allied health staff, scientists and OHS managers who need to take on higher-level, independent judgement roles, initiating and evaluating risk management interventions rather than just following existing safety protocols. Delivery combines the university's online learning platform with face-to-face teaching days at the Alfred Medical Research and Education Precinct in Melbourne, and international students must study in this on-campus blended mode rather than fully online. It's a natural next step for graduates of Monash's Graduate Diploma of Occupational and Environmental Health, or for experienced OHS professionals who want postgraduate-level credibility behind skills they've already been applying in workplace and community health and safety roles.

Core studies (48 points) You must complete: MPH5040 Introductory epidemiology MPH5041 Introductory biostatistics MPH5203 Environmental influences on health MPH5222 Health and safety risk management leadership and governance MPH5241 Introduction to occupational health and safety MPH5242 Psychosocial work environment MPH5243 Workplace hazards: measurement and management MPH5244 Humans, work and physical hazards Note: You must achieve a minimum mark of 70% in MPH5040 and MPH5041 if you wish to progress into the research pathway. If you do not achieve the required minimum mark you will be automatically moved to the coursework pathway. PART B. Admissions
An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a non-cognate discipline with at least a pass (50%) average AND 1 year of work experience in the field of occupational health and/or safety. A current CV highlighting work experience in occupational health and/or safety must be provided. OR An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline* with at least a pass (50%) average. *Relevant cognate disciples include: medical, nursing, allied health, (other health related degree e.g. psychology, public health, environmental health, paramedic, imaging (radiology, nuclear medicine), biomedical engineering, dietetics/nutrition, pharmacy, social work, medical science/biomedical science/immunology, health science, laboratory science, science, and health economics).
