About this program
The Master of Public Health, delivered through Monash's School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, builds the quantitative and analytical skills needed to work in population-level health rather than clinical, individual patient care. Core units in epidemiology, biostatistics, research methods and the practice and challenges of public health give every student a shared analytical foundation, after which electives let students specialise in epidemiology, global and planetary health, health economics, health policy, health promotion or a research stream. A capstone professional practice unit or an optional research project or case study lets students apply their learning to a real public health problem before graduating. International students must study in the course's on-campus mode, which in practice combines online learning with face-to-face teaching days at the Alfred Centre in Melbourne. The course suits graduates from health, science or social science backgrounds moving into public health policy, health promotion, epidemiology or global health roles across government, NGOs and international health organisations.
