About this program
Monash's Master of Teaching in Early Childhood Education is a graduate-entry qualification for people with an undergraduate degree in any relevant discipline who want to teach children from birth through to school entry, one of five specialisations offered under Monash's Master of Teaching. Coursework builds the professional teaching knowledge and pedagogical skills specific to early years learning and development, alongside placements in early childhood settings that expose students to the realities of working with very young children before graduation. The course prepares graduates for the specific developmental, relational and curriculum demands of early childhood education, distinct from primary or secondary teaching, covering how young children learn best through play-based and relationship-focused approaches. It suits career-changers and recent graduates from any discipline who've decided on early childhood teaching specifically, rather than primary or secondary teaching, and admission is competitive, generally requiring at least a credit average in a prior bachelor's degree.

- The course comprises 96 points of study, structured into four parts: Part A. Core studies, Part B. Education studies, Part C. Curriculum studies and Part D. Professional experience. The mandatory course requirements listed below must also be completed. The nature and proportion of units required among these themes will differ depending upon your specialisation. Admissions
An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) with at least a credit (60%) average. Admission into the course is competitive and may require a higher overall average than the minimum requirement. Students applying for the dual-sector Early Childhood and Primary Education specialisation must have at least one year of full-time equivalent study relevant to one or more learning areas of the primary school curriculum. Students applying for the Primary Education specialisation must have at least one year of full-time equivalent study relevant to one or more learning areas of the primary school curriculum. Students applying for the Primary and Secondary Education specialisation must have at least one year of full-time equivalent study relevant to one or more learning areas of the primary school curriculum and at least a major study* in one secondary teaching area.
