Master of Teaching in Primary and Secondary Education
Monash University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia
About this program
Monash's Master of Teaching in Primary and Secondary Education is a graduate-entry, dual-sector qualification letting graduates teach across both primary schools and secondary schools, one of five specialisations under Monash's Master of Teaching. Students need at least one year of full-time equivalent prior study relevant to a primary curriculum learning area, plus a major study in at least one secondary teaching area, reflecting the genuinely broader academic background needed to qualify across two very different teaching sectors simultaneously. The course builds teaching knowledge spanning both age ranges, preparing graduates to move between primary classrooms and secondary subject teaching depending on where positions become available, which offers real career flexibility in a competitive teaching job market. It suits graduates with a strong, relevant academic background who want to maximise their employability across both primary and secondary teaching rather than committing to just one sector.
