About this program
Monash's Master of Teaching in Primary Education is a graduate-entry qualification for people with an undergraduate degree in any discipline who want to teach in primary schools specifically, one of five specialisations under Monash's Master of Teaching umbrella. The course builds the professional knowledge and pedagogical skills needed to teach across the full primary curriculum, spanning English, mathematics, science, the arts and humanities to children roughly aged five to twelve, with professional placements in real primary school settings throughout. Entry requires at least one year of full-time equivalent prior study relevant to one or more primary school curriculum learning areas, on top of the general credit-average degree requirement, reflecting Monash's expectation that graduate-entry primary teachers arrive with some relevant subject background. It suits career-changers and graduates from any discipline who've specifically decided on primary teaching rather than early childhood or secondary education, and note this specialisation was only offered at Monash's Clayton campus as of 2025.

- The course comprises 96 points of study, structured into four parts: Part A. Core studies, Part B. Education studies, Part C. Curriculum studies and Part D. Professional experience. The mandatory course requirements listed below must also be completed. The nature and proportion of units required among these themes will differ depending upon your specialisation. Admissions
An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) with at least a credit (60%) average. Admission into the course is competitive and may require a higher overall average than the minimum requirement. Students applying for the dual-sector Early Childhood and Primary Education specialisation must have at least one year of full-time equivalent study relevant to one or more learning areas of the primary school curriculum.
