About this program
The Bachelor of Psychology Honours provides an in-depth understanding of the principles and practice of psychology and is a required step on the pathway to becoming a registered psychologist. Working with an academic supervisor, honours students complete an individual research project of their choice and develop research ability through coursework on psychological measurement and practice. An honours qualification of 2A or a suitable equivalent is normally required for admission to postgraduate coursework and research degrees. Places in Murdoch's psychology courses are reserved for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants under an exemption to the Equal Opportunity Act 1984, aligned with Australian Indigenous Psychology Education Project (AIPEP) guidelines; eligible applicants must still meet the specified admission criteria but do not go through the competitive selection process. Registered and clinical psychologist roles appear on Australia's skilled occupation lists, but the training pathway is long, requiring postgraduate study and supervised practice; many graduates instead work in research, HR or counselling-adjacent roles that do not require full registration.

Admissions
A three-year Bachelor's degree in Psychology accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council or Australian Psychological Society-approved alternative, completed within the last 10 years. Students with a relevant degree more than 10 years old may be required to complete additional units to satisfy specified course entry requirements. The Academic Chair will consider applications and recommend students for admission based on an assessment of the student's preparedness for this course, and on current teaching and supervision resources available to the School. Subject to exceptions on the basis of consideration by the Academic Chair, only students with a Distinction average or better in their undergraduate psychology units will be admitted.
