Master of Forensic Science

Murdoch University, Perth, WA, Australia

About this program

An 18-month master's (36 credit points) that is unusually hands-on for a forensic science degree. Students work across bloodstain pattern analysis, forensic chemistry and toxicology, fingerprint and impression evidence, forensic anthropology and clandestine grave work, digital forensics, and expert-witness and courtroom skills.

The practical side is the draw: multiple crime scene simulation rooms on and off campus, and Whitby Falls Farm, where students process a simulated large-scale homicide and a clandestine grave. Guest lecturers come from law enforcement, forensic laboratories and medicine, and students contribute to a Cold Case Review initiative. Entry requires a bachelor's degree in biological or chemical science or a related health field; criminology graduates without science units complete a graduate certificate or diploma first. It suits science graduates moving into forensic analysis, investigation or research roles in policing, national security or pathology.
