About this program
This course is designed for science graduates or professionals interested in identifying and controlling infectious disease outbreaks, a field the university notes is continually evolving with new research and practice. Students gain specialist knowledge of infectious disease outbreak and control, learn from academic staff working in infectious disease research, gain practical laboratory experience, and complete a real-world project. Students in the Master of Infectious Disease Surveillance and Control (Advanced Practice) can choose between a six-month industry-based project or a dissertation. This is not a registered clinical health profession in the way nursing or medicine are, so it does not carry the same direct route to skilled migration; graduates typically move into public health, surveillance, or laboratory science roles. This course is delivered by Murdoch University in Western Australia.

- Core topics covered in this course include: Build the knowledge and skills you need to meet your career or study goals. During your studies you will learn to: Identify bacterial

- parasitic
- and fungal pathogens. Form action or management plans to solve problems in pathogen disease outbreaks and routine surveillance. Understand infectious disease and consider the interaction between pathogens and host organisms. Use new cutting-edge methodologies in molecular science and how to handle and visualise large data sets to inform infectious disease management and research. Understand vaccines and vaccine development and how to discover new anti-microbial agents. Plan and execute original and collaborative research. Evaluate scientific research and literature to make informed decisions in the field. Not only could I study a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Biology and Toxicology

Admissions
Bachelor of Science in a cognate discipline (AQF Level 7). Other AQF Level 7 qualifications will be considered if they are broadly relevant to infectious diseases and contain units in biological or chemical sciences, at the discretion of the Academic Chair. OR Successful completion of the requirements for G1097 (Graduate Diploma in Infectious Diseases) or C1173 (Graduate Certificate in Infectious Diseases)
