About this program

This course's current CRICOS-registered and accredited name is Bachelor of Fine Arts (Technical Theatre and Stage Management); NIDA's own marketing page uses the URL and heading 'Technical Production' for the same qualification, which is where the name stored here comes from. It is a 3-year, full-time, on-campus degree bringing together lighting, sound, video and stage management practice into one interdisciplinary program, rather than teaching each as a separate specialisation, so graduates emerge able to work fluently across disciplines, genres and platforms.

Students take on real crewing, assistant stage management and eventually solo show-running roles across NIDA's own production seasons from first year onward, with a final-year industry placement with a leading company or practitioner. Graduates are employed by Sydney Theatre Company, Sydney Opera House, Sydney Dance Company, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Cirque du Soleil, Disney Theatrical Group and international scenic and touring companies, moving into roles from stage manager and lighting, sound or video designer through to production manager, general manager or producer.

Entry is by merit selection through an online application and a first project submission, followed by an interview and a second project component for shortlisted applicants.
