About this program
The RMIT Bachelor of Sustainability and Environment explores biodiversity, climate action and sustainable policy to help drive solutions to urgent environmental and social challenges. Students develop a deep understanding of climate change, environmental management, Indigenous perspectives, place-based analysis, and pathways to social and ecological justice, with an emphasis on the social elements of environmental issues and skills in communication and critical thinking. Graduates work in sustainability, environmental policy and management, community engagement and advocacy roles.

- Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Work integrated learning (WIL) Learning outcomes Year 1 Year 1 In your first year, you build a big-picture understanding of how people and the planet are interconnected, and what that means for climate change, biodiversity and justice. You explore how Earth's systems work, how human activity drives environmental change, and how different cultures, histories and power structures shape the way we think and talk about "the environment". You develop core skills in social research, mapping and systems thinking so you can critically analyse land use, resource management and environmental decisions. You also examine how sustainability plays out in everyday life, communities, workplaces and cities, and you study real responses to climate change from local to global scales. Throughout, you engage with First Peoples' knowledge and responsibilities to Country and consider what it means to live and work respectfully on unceded land, preparing you to think and act thoughtfully in the face of complex environmental challenges. Year 2 Year 2 In your second year, you move from understanding environmental challenges to working out how to change systems in practice. You explore how policies are made, implemented and evaluated across different levels of government, and how these processes shape environmental decisions on the ground. You examine how organisations in government and business manage their environmental impacts, using practical tools such as management systems, auditing, reporting and impact assessment. You apply your research and analysis skills to real-world policy problems for external partners, building experience in teamwork and professional practice. Prerequisites: Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL; or a study score of at least 27 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or equivalent studies . Rankings and adjustment factors Entry to this course is competitive. Eligible applicants are ranked and selected in order of merit based on their academic achievement plus any adjustment factors. You may be eligible to receive adjustment factors which include equity access schemes and/or subject adjustments to a maximum of 28 aggregate adjustment points.
