Master of Data Science

The Master of Data Science at the University of Melbourne is a two-year professional-entry program for graduates who want to move into data analytics without a prior computing degree. Delivered by the School of Mathematics and Statistics, it requires 200 credit points and builds skills in statistics, machine learning and programming across four specialisation streams: foundational, statistical, computational, and computational and statistical. In the final-year capstone, students apply data science tools to a real-world problem, working individually or in a group and presenting results in a client-ready format. International students start in Semester 1 or Semester 2 and pay indicative tuition of about A$64,500 per year. Entry requires an undergraduate degree in any discipline, with applicants who lack a quantitative background completing foundational subjects early. Graduates work as data scientists and analysts, software and data-infrastructure engineers, business intelligence analysts and statisticians.
