About this program
The Master of Surgery (by Research) at the University of Melbourne lets students undertake research in a specific aspect of surgery under academic supervision, advancing their knowledge, research skills and competencies in surgical practice and patient care. Students complete a minimum of six months of full-time research at the University, drawing on current evidence-based practices and research methodologies.
Graduates gain the competencies to independently conduct surgical research and meet entry requirements for further research degrees or academic roles in surgery.
The expected candidature is 1.5 years full-time or part-time equivalent, on campus at Parkville with a flexible start date. The thesis is examined externally and should normally be between 30,000 and 40,000 words, excluding tables, illustrations and bibliography.
