About this program
The Bachelor of Wildlife Science at the University of Queensland combines zoology, ecology, conservation biology and animal husbandry to train students in protecting species, managing ecosystems and caring for animals in captivity. The first year is based at UQ's St Lucia campus, building a foundation in ecology and animal science, before students move between St Lucia and the Gatton campus in later years depending on their chosen major, such as Captive Wildlife Management. Field experience is built throughout the degree, drawing on Queensland's biodiversity and industry partnerships with Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and Hidden Vale Research Station. A dedicated work-integrated learning course prepares students for the realities of wildlife careers rather than only classroom study. Typical graduate roles include environmental biologist, wildlife scientist, conservation officer and ecotourism guide.
