About this program
The Master of Teaching (Secondary) at the University of Sydney is a graduate-entry professional qualification to teach one or two secondary school subjects, including English, mathematics, science, HSIE, creative arts or languages, based on an applicant's undergraduate background. Core units in education and curriculum are combined with professional units and specialisation in chosen teaching areas, alongside training in Aboriginal education, diversity and educational technology.
Graduates become accredited teachers in New South Wales and other Australian jurisdictions, qualified to teach across a wide range of secondary school subjects, from biology and business studies to drama and modern history.

Admissions
Admission to candidature requires: a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification; and completion of the teaching area specialisation requirements specified by the Faculty; and completion of any additional qualifying courses prescribed by the Faculty. Applicants who are one unit of study (equivalent to one quarter of a semester of full-time study or 0.125 EFTSL) short of meeting the prerequisites for admission to the Master of Teaching (Secondary) may be given special permission to study the deficient unit in another faculty or institution during their first semester while undertaking their Master of Teaching.
