About this program

The Bachelor of Engineering (Specialisation) with Honours at the University of Tasmania is built around Climate Safe Engineering, embedding climate mitigation and adaptation into every aspect of civil, mechanical and electrical engineering. Students learn to design systems that reduce emissions, strengthen climate resilience and create sustainable infrastructure, choosing a specialisation in one of the three disciplines.   • The Bachelor of Engineering (Specialisation) with Honours requires completion of 400 credit points: 137.5 credit points of Core units, 75 credit points of Core Climate Safe units (which incorporate a Vertically Integrated Project run across Years 1 to 3), 150 credit points of Specialisation units, 25 credit points of Electives, and 12.5 credit points of Engineering elective. All students complete 12 weeks (450 hours) of industrial experience via four flexibly-enrolled Engineering Professional Practice short modules, required for Engineers Australia accreditation. In Year 2, students choose a Specialisation from Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering

Admissions

Domestic applicants are ranked by ATAR; in 2026 the lowest ATAR to receive an offer into this course was 70.2. Domestic applicants with higher education study must have partially completed an undergraduate course at Diploma level or higher (at least two units, equivalent to 25 University of Tasmania credit points), or completed the University of Tasmania University Preparation Program. Domestic applicants with VET/TAFE study must have completed a Certificate IV (or equivalent) in any discipline. Subject prerequisites for all applicants: Mathematics Methods (MTM415117) or equivalent, and Physical Sciences (PSC315118) or equivalent (Chemistry or Physics accepted). International and other applicants can meet the General Entry Requirement with qualifications equivalent to a year 12 education in Australia, an AQF Certificate IV or above, or at least 25 credit points of previous tertiary study at Diploma level or higher, subject to the same Mathematics Methods and Physical Sciences prerequisites.
