About this program

UWA's Bachelor of Arts is a broad-based humanities and social sciences degree with majors spanning history, literature, politics, anthropology, linguistics, Asian studies and more, built on UWA's New Courses curriculum structure that lets students combine a major with a genuinely broad set of electives rather than locking into a narrow single-discipline pathway from first year, the way older-style Australian arts degrees used to.

Being based in Perth, the degree has some specific regional strengths worth naming directly. Asian studies and Indian Ocean-focused international relations content benefit from Perth's geographic position closer to Southeast Asia than any other Australian capital, and Indigenous studies units draw on UWA's location on Noongar country and long-running partnerships with WA Aboriginal communities.

Graduates go into a wide range of fields, including media, public policy, government, education pathways via further study, and the arts and cultural sector, with the degree's broad structure making it a common double-degree partner alongside commerce, law or science at UWA rather than a purely stand-alone qualification.
