Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
University of Western Australia, Perth, WA, Australia
About this program
UWA's Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) is a four-year accredited degree: engineers here graduate with honours built in as standard, in line with the Washington Accord structure most Australian engineering schools now use rather than treating honours as an optional extra year. Perth's economy leans heavily on resources and energy, and UWA's engineering school reflects that: mining, mechanical, chemical and civil engineering all have direct pipelines into the state's mining and oil and gas sector, alongside newer strength in areas like renewable energy engineering as the WA economy diversifies.
Students choose a specialisation stream after common first-year engineering foundations, and the degree includes mandatory industry-relevant project work and, depending on the stream, placement or work-integrated learning components that connect directly to WA's resources employers, a genuine local advantage given how concentrated mining and energy company headquarters and operations are in Perth compared with the eastern states.
Graduates move into mining, oil and gas, civil infrastructure and increasingly renewable energy roles, with strong graduate starting salaries in the resources-linked specialisations reflecting sustained WA industry demand for locally trained engineers.

Career & PR pathway
Which careers in Engineering lead to skilled migration depends on the occupation, not the degree title. See the skilled occupation lists guide for which occupations are on each list, and the points calculator to check where you stand.
Admissions
Minimum ATAR 80 for the single Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree (dual-degree combinations require higher ATARs of 88-98), with prerequisite Mathematics Methods ATAR (scaled score of at least 50) plus one of Chemistry ATAR, Physics ATAR, or Mathematics Specialist ATAR (scaled score of at least 50).
