About this program
The Doctor of Podiatry is an advanced postgraduate qualification for already qualified podiatrists who want to broaden their knowledge of podiatric medicine and surgery. The course is delivered in two stages, two semesters of coursework and practicum units covering biostatistics, research methodology and the foundations of podiatric surgery, followed by four semesters of independent doctoral level clinical research on a topic of interest. Students carry out patient oriented research, work through the ethics and communication of research, and produce an original thesis for publication. It is the highest postgraduate qualification UWA offers in podiatry and suits podiatrists wanting to combine advanced clinical practice with a research career.

1 term of coursework
- The course totals 144 points across two components. Group A is 48 points of core coursework and practicum units
- including Foundations of Podiatric Surgery 1 and 2 (PODI5511, PODI5512)
- PODI5513Concepts of Podiatric Surgery
- Podiatric Medicine Practicum
- PODI5515Introduction to Surgical Skills
- plus supporting research methods units in biostatistics and epidemiology (PUBH4401, PUBH4403, PUBH5805). Group B is a 96 point research thesis (PODI6900 full time or PODI6902 part time)
- undertaken once the coursework requirements are complete. Standard full time duration is 3 years
- with a 7 year maximum time limit. Students who complete only the 48 point coursework component may exit with a Graduate Diploma in Podiatric Medicine

Admissions
Applicants must hold a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from UWA, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Faculty, plus at least one year of relevant professional experience as a podiatrist. A Research and Coursework Supplementary Form must also be completed as part of the application.
