About this program
The Master of Teaching - Primary is a two year intensive professional teaching qualification that prepares graduates for careers as primary school teachers, with a strong clinical focus on teaching children who have difficulty with reading and mathematics alongside literacy and numeracy more broadly. Students are introduced to the full breadth of the primary curriculum, including science, music, dance, visual arts, and health and physical education, and put their teaching into practice across two extended school placements. The course is accredited by the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia, and graduates meet the requirements for Provisional Registration with that Board. The course is not being offered in 2026, with the next intake expected in 2028.

Admissions
Applicants need a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification recognised by UWA, with the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 60 per cent, and at least one year of the bachelor's degree relevant to one or more learning areas in the primary school curriculum. Selection is competitive and applicants are ranked on personal statements and faculty interviews. International applicants must also obtain a criminal record check before admission.
