Bachelor of Art Theory

UNSW Sydney, Sydney, NSW, Australia

About this program

UNSW's Bachelor of Art Theory (Honours) is a one-year advanced degree for high-achieving students who've already completed an undergraduate degree in art history and theory or a related field, deepening their critical and scholarly skills through a significant independent research thesis supported by coursework in art theory. The program builds highly sought-after analytical, problem-solving and research skills alongside deep art history and theory knowledge, providing a genuine pathway into higher degree research programs like an MPhil or PhD as well as diverse careers across the arts and cultural sectors. It suits art history and theory graduates who performed strongly in their undergraduate studies and want research training before either continuing into further academic study or moving into cultural sector careers requiring genuine scholarly depth, distinguishing this honours pathway from purely practice-based creative arts study.
