About this program
UNSW's Bachelor of Aviation (Flying) trains students to become professional pilots while also developing them as future aviation industry leaders, combining the science behind aviation with actual flight training delivered through UNSW Aviation's own Flying Operations Unit at Bankstown Airport. Students train to Commercial Pilot Licence standard with a multi-engine instrument rating and complete Air Transport Pilot Licence theory subjects, while also studying aviation management topics including human factors and safety, airworthiness management, commercial operations and airline management. The program includes direct mentoring from professional industry pilots, and students can access the Qantas Aviation Career Enrichment Program, which builds professional skills during second year and provides a recruitment pathway into Qantas after graduation. It suits students specifically committed to a professional piloting career, since the block-based flight training structure means teaching periods run differently from standard academic terms and the flying component must be completed full-time.
