About this program
UNSW's Bachelor of Engineering Science (BEngSc, program 3706) is a 3-year, non-accredited pass degree that functions as the university's internal exit award for the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours). Students are transferred into it, with faculty consent, when they do not meet the academic-standing requirements to continue in a BE(Hons) discipline stream, rather than choosing it as a direct first-preference qualification; a small number of students who show sustained improvement can apply to transfer back into the BE(Hons) program. It retains the same engineering major (drawn from the student's original BE(Hons) discipline stream) plus free electives and general education, giving a genuine engineering qualification and credit pathway for students who do not complete the Honours degree, rather than leaving with no engineering credential at all.

Course structure
- Students must complete 240 UOC (after the 24 UOC reduction from double counted courses). Admissions
The Bachelor of Engineering Science is not a direct UAC/first-preference entry program. Students are admitted by internal transfer from the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) when they do not meet BE(Hons) academic-standing/progression requirements, per UNSW Engineering Faculty policy (Bachelor of Engineering Science program information page). Readmission to the BE(Hons) is possible on application, subject to a minimum of 48 UOC completed in the BEngSc program, meeting the BE(Hons) progression WAM, having passed any previously failed core courses, being in good academic standing, and being able to complete the BE(Hons) within the maximum time to complete.
