Bachelor of Music

UNSW Sydney, Sydney, NSW, Australia

About this program

UNSW's Bachelor of Music (Honours) is a one-year advanced degree for high-achieving students who've completed the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music, letting them pursue either musicological research through seminars and a thesis, or practice-based research through seminars, a thesis and a completed creative project. Musicological research candidates develop deeper theoretical understanding and the ability to critique existing knowledge in a chosen research area, while creative practice candidates build knowledge and skills specifically for music performance or composition research, often through collaboration between performers, composers and scholars. The program can serve as a pathway into PhD study for students who want to continue in music research or creative practice at the doctoral level. It suits music graduates who performed strongly in their undergraduate studies and want either genuine musicological research training or a substantial creative practice project before continuing their career or further study.
