About this program
UNSW's Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) is a one-year advanced degree for high-achieving students who've completed an undergraduate pass degree in Social Science, deepening understanding within their chosen policy specialisation through a significant independent research thesis. The honours year develops the highly sought-after analytical, problem-solving and research skills that distinguish honours graduates from standard bachelor's graduates, typically completed within the same policy specialisation pursued in the pass degree rather than starting fresh in a new area. Available full-time or part-time, the program can serve as a genuine pathway into PhD study for students who want to continue in social science research. It suits social science graduates who performed strongly in their pass degree and want deeper research training before entering the workforce or continuing into doctoral study.

Admissions
You must have completed the UNSW Bachelor of Social Science or other recognised Level 7 qualification with a major in a specialisation offered in the program. If you are in a double degree you must have completed 144 uoc including all requirements for the Social Science component. Entry to Honours requires a WAM of 70 or higher (or equivalent) in the specialisation(s) seeking to be further studied. It is subject to resources and the approval of the Head of School in which the specialisation(s) is/are based. If you are a double degree student the conferral of the honours degree is subject to you completing all requirements of the double degree. If you subsequently withdraw from your double degree after the completion of honours you will only be conferred the honours degree if you have met all requirements for the single degree.
